BootStrap Shortcode <= 3.4.0 - Authenticated (Contributor+) Stored Cross-Site Scripting

6.4
Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting')
CVE CVE-2022-4777
CVSS 6.4 (Medium)
Publicly Published January 27, 2023
Last Updated January 30, 2023
Researcher István Márton - Wordfence

Description

The BootStrap Shortcodes plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'name' parameter in the 'bs_icon' shortcode in versions up to, and including, 3.4.0. This may make it possible for authenticated attackers with the 'edit posts' capability, such as contributors, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Note that while it is trivial to add event attributes to the <i> tag generated by the shortcode, a practically exploitable payload may not exist as the tag is closed without any additional content.
